September 2023’s Do It for a Cause Spotlight shines on The Bread Shed in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, a local nonprofit that’s been spreading hope and feeding hungry hearts since 2010.
The Bread Shed’s mission is simple yet powerful:
“To feed the hungry — both spiritually and physically — as an extension of the love of Jesus Christ.”
Run entirely by volunteers from local churches and community members, this organization is living proof of what faith, compassion, and unity can accomplish.
Serving Southeast Missouri with Heart
Located at 203 N D Street, Poplar Bluff, MO, The Bread Shed operates several ongoing programs designed to uplift and meet the needs of our community:
“Breaking Bread”: Free hot meals served every Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Food & Clothing Distributions: Monthly events offering breakfast, worship, and testimonies.
ABC (A Better Childhood) Food Program: Monthly distribution for families with children in Poplar Bluff Schools.
Diaper Distribution: Monthly access to diapers and hygiene products for families in need.
Senior Food Boxes: Monthly deliveries providing nutritious food to senior citizens.
Shower Trailer Ministry: Available many Sundays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. with bathing products and fresh undergarments provided.
Each initiative represents more than just assistance — it’s a message of love, dignity, and hope.
How You Can Get Involved

Here are a few ways you or your group can get involved:
Volunteer on the distribution line — be a friendly face serving those in need.
Prepare and serve Sunday lunches (food is provided by The Bread Shed).
Host a food drive or organize a church donation collection.
Donate Bibles or spiritual reading materials.
Give financially — every $1 provides seven meals for local families.
Pray for continued blessings and provision for this ministry.
